Privacy policy
Last updated October 6, 2026
Advicer.bio is run by AdvisorTechBook LLC, an Illinois limited liability company (“Advicer”, “we”, “us”). It's a public directory of the people, companies and resources in financial advice. This policy explains what information we collect, what's public, who helps us run the site, and how you can change or remove your information. Using Advicer is also covered by our terms of service. Questions? Email joe@advisortechbook.com.
The short version
- Advicer is a public directory: pages, reviews and endorsements are meant to be seen by anyone, including search engines and AI tools.
- Your email address is private. We use it to sign you in and, only if you opt in, to send Advicer updates.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with sponsors or advertisers.
- Our analytics don't use cookies or track you across other sites.
- You can edit your page, unsubscribe, or ask us to remove a page or delete your account at any time.
Information that's public
Anything shown on a page on Advicer is public. That includes:
- Your page: your name, photo, headline, bio, location, what you're working on, links, the companies you work at or founded, the tools you use, and the events, books, podcasts and communities you're part of.
- Reviews and endorsements you write, with your name and page.
- Pages for companies and resources (firms, software, books, podcasts and so on), including who's connected to them.
Public pages can be indexed by search engines and read by AI assistants, and others may copy or link to them. If you remove something from Advicer, copies kept elsewhere are outside our control.
Pages we start from public sources
Many pages are started by us before anyone claims them, using publicly available information:
- Financial advisors and RIAs: names, firms, CRD numbers, assets under management and designations from the SEC's public Investment Adviser data (and FINRA BrokerCheck when we verify a CRD number), refreshed regularly.
- Other people: public professional information such as name, headline, photo, company and LinkedIn follower count, gathered from public profiles and websites. Follower counts are entered by hand and used to rank the Top 100.
If there's a page about you, you can claim it to edit it, or ask us to correct or remove it: use the “Ask us to remove it” link on the page, or email joe@advisortechbook.com. We'll act on removal requests promptly, though advisor facts that come from public regulatory records may be restored by our regular SEC updates unless you ask us to keep the page removed.
Information you give us
- Your email address, when you sign in. We send you a sign-in link; there are no passwords.
- If you sign in with LinkedIn: the name, email address and profile photo LinkedIn shares with your permission. We copy the photo to your page only if it has none (or you choose to use it); we don't post to LinkedIn or read your connections.
- Page details, photos and logos you add or upload, and the companies and resources you add or manage.
- Drafts: unpublished edits are saved as you type so you don't lose them. Drafts are private to you (and our admins) until you publish.
- Claim and access requests: when you ask for a page or to manage a listing, we keep your email and any note you write so we can check it's you.
- Email updates: if you opt in, we keep your email, first name and the People directories you're listed in, so updates can match your interests.
- Messages you send us, such as questions or sponsorship enquiries.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics: we use Fathom Analytics to count page views and a few actions (such as a page being claimed). Fathom doesn't use cookies, doesn't collect personal information, and doesn't follow you across other websites. We don't count admin or editing pages.
- Performance: Vercel Speed Insights measures how quickly pages load for visitors (for example, time to show the page), without cookies or personal information, so we can keep the site fast.
- Server logs: like any website, our hosting provider records basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to run the site securely.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. If you arrive through someone's invite link (advicer.bio/invite/…), a second cookie remembers who invited you for 30 days, so they're credited if you create or claim a page; who invited you then shows on their invite count and the public Top inviters leaderboard. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The editor also remembers which section you last opened, in your browser only, until you close the tab.
Some pages include videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Wistia. Nothing loads from those services until you press play; once you do, that service's own privacy policy and cookies apply.
How we use information
- To run the directory: show pages, reviews and rankings, and let you sign in and edit.
- To check claims, verify advisors' CRD numbers, and keep the directory accurate and free of spam and abuse.
- To send emails you've asked for: sign-in links, notices about your page or requests, and Advicer updates if you've opted in.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
Sponsors may appear on Advicer and in our emails, and sponsored placements are labeled. Sponsors can't buy rankings, reviews or your information: we never give sponsors or advertisers your email address or other personal information.
Who helps us run Advicer
We use a few service providers, who process information only on our behalf:
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage (photos and logos).
- Vercel: hosting the website.
- LinkedIn: optional sign-in.
- Resend: sending emails and managing the Advicer updates list.
- Fathom Analytics: privacy-first, cookie-free analytics.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect Advicer or its users, or as part of a sale or merger of the site (in which case this policy would continue to apply). We don't sell personal information.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your page any time from Edit your page.
- Unsubscribe from Advicer updates with the link at the bottom of any update, or in Email updates when you edit your page.
- Remove a page or review, or delete your account: email joe@advisortechbook.com and we'll take care of it.
- See or correct your information: email us and we'll send you what we hold or fix it.
Depending on where you live (for example California, or the UK and European Union), you may have additional rights, such as to access, correct, delete or move your information, or to object to how we use it. Email joe@advisortechbook.com to use any of them; we won't treat you differently for doing so.
How long we keep information
We keep pages and your account while they're active. When you delete your account or ask us to remove a page, we delete it from the site promptly and from backups within a reasonable time. We keep email list records while you're subscribed, and a note of unsubscribes so we don't email you again.
Security
We use sign-in links instead of passwords, encrypted connections, and database rules that let only you (and our admins) change your page or see your private information. No website is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Advicer is a professional directory for adults and isn't meant for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you by email or on the site if the change is significant.
